"Medium-weight" motorcycles
(two-wheelers, also with sidecars) with a design-related top speed of more than 45 km/h and a displacement of more than 50 cm³. The power may not exceed 35 kW and the ratio of power to unladen mass may not exceed 0.2 kW/kg.
This driving license class includes the classes AM and A1.
Class A1 vehicles:
Motorcycles
with a maximum displacement of 125 cm³, a nominal output of no more than 11 kW and the power output to empty mass may not exceed 0.1 kW/kg output.
Three-wheel motor vehicles
with a maximum displacement of 50 cm³ and a design-related top speed of more than 45 km/h with a maximum output of 15 kW.
Class AM vehicles:
Two-wheel mopeds
with a spark ignition engine with a maximum displacement of 50 cm³, a design-related maximum speed of maximum 45 km/h or an electric motor with a maximum continuous rated output of 4 kW.
Three-wheel mopeds
with a spark ignition engine with a maximum displacement of 50 cm³ and a maximum construction speed of 45 km/h or an electric motor with a maximum rated output of 4 kW.
Four-wheel light vehicles
with a spark ignition engine with a maximum displacement of 50 cm³, a design-related maximum speed of maximum 45 km/h or an electric motor with a maximum continuous rated output of 4 kW and an empty weight of maximum 350 kg.
Class AM also entitles you to:
Small motorcycles
with a maximum design speed of 50 km/h, provided they first entered traffic before January 1, 2002.
Small motorcycles
according to former GDR law with a displacement of 50 cm³ and a maximum design speed of 60 km/h if they were put into operation for the first time before January 1st, 1991. Proof of insurance is required from the GDR.
